ADHD Assessment Process

After booking your ADHD assessment, we will send you a registration to be filled out and to be sent back to us. You will be asked for availability of collateral history, which is someone who is utterly familiar with your daily functions or someone you have been with for the longest time. This helps our specialists get a better understanding of how ADHD has affected and has been affecting your life so far.

Your private ADHD assessment will involve meeting with an experienced Consultant Psychiatrist doctor who specialises in adult ADHD and can help students with ADHD. Your assessment can either be face to face with one of our ADHD psychiatrist at one of our centres in London, Manchester and Birmingham or via Skype, depending on your preference. Assessments usually take around 60-90 minutes.

The doctor will take a detailed assessment of the following:

  • Your presenting symptoms (and how these have developed over time)
  • Your past medical history
  • Your developmental history
  • Your family history

The doctor will then walk you through a structured clinical assessment for adult ADHD which is based on the latest DSM-V criteria for adult ADHD. This is known to be the gold standard of assessment criteria for diagnosing the different sub-types of ADHD.

The cost for an initial assessment is £445 for adults aged 18 or older. (Please note that students aged 17 or younger will require a child/adolescent assessment, which is charged at a different rate and involves a different diagnostic procedure – please see our children section for further details). If required, the cost for follow-up consultations with your Consultant Psychiatrist is £195.

As part of your assessment, we also offer a free introductory coaching session with one of our specialist ADHD Coaches. We will get in touch to arrange this after you meet with the doctor.

You will receive a letter of presenting symptoms, clinical findings and diagnosis, if applicable. If you require a more detailed full assessment report, then there is an additional charge of £150 for this.

The cost of our ADHD coaching packages depend on the length and frequency of the sessions and we have a number of different plans to best suit your specific needs. Prices vary from between £190-340/month.

Student Assessments

We normally ask if it is possible for you to get some collateral history, preferably from someone who has known you since childhood. This helps the doctor to get a better objective understanding of how your ADHD symptoms may have affected you throughout your life.

The sooner you get diagnosed and start on a treatment plan for Adult ADHD the better it will be in terms of making positive life changes. However, it is important to remember that is never too late to get help for Adult ADHD. We have had many clients come to The ADHD Centre in their retirement seeking help and have worked successfully with them to help them get on top of their symptoms so that they are leading a fuller and richer life.

Psychology and Psychiatry

Studies show that adults with ADHD have an increased risk of also suffering from other psychological problems: particularly depression, anxiety and substance abuse. This is often because their ADHD went undiagnosed and untreated in childhood and they may be using substances to self-medicate.
