Speech and Language Therapist and Autism Assessor

Alice is a registered Speech and Language Therapist (SLT) with nearly 17 years experience working within the NHS. Alice has specialised in working with children and young people with complex needs, speech sound disorder, and children and adults born with Cleft Palate and/or Velopharyngeal Dysfunction. She continues to work within the NHS and, also independently, in private settings.
Alice began her career in 2009, working as a Community SLT. During this time, she specialised in working with children and young people with speech sound disorders, and with complex needs. This involved working as part of a multidisciplinary team (MDT) in health, education and home settings, to provide co-ordinated and evidence-based care. Alice was also involved in carrying out Autism assessments for preschool children, alongside the wider MDT. In 2018, this led to her completing the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS) training and routinely carrying out ADOS assessments.
From March 2023 to date, Alice has worked with individuals born with Cleft Lip and Palate, and Velopharyngeal Dysfunction. Within this role, Alice regularly works jointly with Psychology colleagues, to support children with long-term, persisting communication difficulties. This has enabled Alice to further understand, and value, the psychological complexities and impact of communication difficulties.
Alice has experience of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC), and supports a ‘Total Communication’ approach. She also has a keen interest in Gestalt Language Processing (GLP) and recognises its prevalence in the language development of neurodivergent individuals.
As an SLT, Alice prides herself in delivering person-centred, compassionate and collaborative care. She is passionate about working with families of neurodivergent children, to support them to understand, develop and celebrate their child’s communication, in all its forms.
