Combined Child ADHD & Autism Assessment

When a child presents with traits of both ADHD and autism, it can be difficult to understand which condition best explains their needs. Many children experience overlapping differences in attention, behaviour, communication, sensory processing, emotional regulation and social interaction.
Our Combined Child ADHD & Autism Assessment provides a comprehensive evaluation to determine whether your child meets the diagnostic criteria for ADHD, autism, or both. Led by a Consultant Psychiatrist and delivered by our multidisciplinary team, this gold-standard assessment follows NICE guidelines and DSM-5 diagnostic criteria.

Is a combined assessment right for your child?
A combined assessment may be appropriate if your child experiences:

Our clinical approach
Our assessments are Consultant Psychiatrist-led and supported by a multidisciplinary team of experienced clinicians. Diagnosis is informed by:

The Assessment Process

Stage 1:
Combined Neurodevelopmental Assessment
A 90 minute appointment with a Consultant Psychiatrist and Senior Psychologis, available online or in person. This explores your child’s development from early childhood to the present, including communication, social development, play, sensory experiences, behaviour patterns, educational history, attention, activity levels and emotional regulation.
Stage 2:
ADHD assessment component
The clinician will assess whether your child meets the diagnostic criteria for ADHD, considering symptoms across home, school and daily life.
Stage 3:
ADOS assessment, if required
Where clinically indicated, your child may complete a 60 minute face to face ADOS assessment in Manchester. This is a structured, play based observational assessment used to support the evaluation of autism.
Stage 4:
Neurodevelopmental assessment
You will receive a detailed diagnostic report, usually within six weeks of the final assessment stage. This includes clinical conclusions, strengths profile, recommendations for home and school, and guidance on next steps.
Stage 5:
Follow up call
A follow up telephone call of up to 30 minutes can be arranged after the report is issued, giving you the opportunity to ask questions and discuss recommendations.
