Dr Louisa Bird is a Consultant Psychiatrist with a special interest in adult ADHD. Trained through the internationally renowned Maudsley Training Programme, she has more than a decade of experience across a wide range of mental health services. Her broad specialist training makes her particularly well placed to assess adults with complex or overlapping symptoms. She takes a collaborative and thorough approach, helping patients feel heard, understand their difficulties and consider the most appropriate next steps.
Dr Bird has gained specialist experience in adult ADHD, autism and neurodevelopmental conditions within tertiary NHS services. She is trained in recognised adult ADHD assessment approaches, including DIVA 5 and the Conners rating scales, and has completed specialist UKAAN training in the assessment, diagnosis and pharmacological treatment of adult ADHD.
Her assessments consider developmental history, current symptoms, mental and physical health and the effect of a person’s difficulties on everyday life. She is experienced in distinguishing ADHD from other conditions with similar symptoms and recognising difficulties that may exist alongside it, including autism, anxiety, depression, trauma, bipolar disorder, substance misuse and cognitive problems.
Dr Bird’s wider experience spans general adult, older adult, liaison and addiction psychiatry. This allows her to understand each patient’s difficulties within the broader context of their health, circumstances and individual goals.
