Meet Dr Anya Ciobanca (MD, MRCPsych)
Leading Consultant Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist
Dr Anya Ciobanca has devoted her career to supporting young people and their families through the challenges of neurodevelopmental and mental health conditions. With over twenty years of experience across medicine, psychiatry, and psychotherapy, she brings both depth of expertise and a compassionate, collaborative approach to her work. After qualifying as a doctor in 2004, Dr Ciobanca first trained in public health before completing Core and Specialist Training in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry in Cambridge. Her career within the NHS has spanned diverse services, including learning disabilities and eating disorders, giving her a rich perspective on the complexities of child and adolescent mental health. Alongside psychiatry, she has developed advanced psychotherapy skills in Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT), which she integrates into her reflective, relational style of practice.
Clinical expertise
Dr Ciobanca works with a wide range of conditions, including:
- ADHD and autism
- Tic disorders
- Depression and anxiety
- Phobias
- PTSD and OCD
She practises in both English and Romanian and also contributes to medical education as a Visiting Consultant Psychiatrist at the University of Cambridge, where she teaches medical students about complex communication in clinical settings.
Looking ahead
From September, Dr Ciobanca will be expanding her clinic capacity to accept more referrals. This will allow families to access specialist psychiatric input more quickly and begin the right support without long delays.

Public health gave me a wide lens on the factors that shape wellbeing, but I discovered my passion lay in direct clinical work with young people and families. Child & Adolescent Psychiatry lets me combine medical training with a therapeutic, relational approach, addressing symptoms and the context that supports lasting progress.
